Life According to Laura

the honeymoon is over…

Let’s just say Ira is over it. He is done with feeding school. Yesterday he cried the last 15 minutes of the drive to NJ saying “I get down! I get down! No eat!” Both yesterday and today he had to be peeled from my arms crying BIG tears. I actually waited outside the playroom this morning listening to how long it would take him to calm down. He cried so long Mimi had to resort to offereing TV. Yes, Ira loves watching TV.

You see, for the last two years of his life, Ira has watched Sesame Street from 9-10am everyday. And I mean everyday. It is in his blood. We use that time to give him his meds, nebulizers, food, etc. And now he is addicted. His brain can’t understand why its not getting its daily fix of Elmo.

Yesterday I was stressed out and very tense. I’m hoping today I can relax a little more. I will be helping to feed in all of the meals today. I think it will be harder on Ira to say hello and goodbye to me so many times. We’ll see.

Also yesterday I sat with the team and set goals for Ira for the month. I should get a copy of those today so I can share some of them with you. Let’s just say we won’t be able to throw a hamburger in the back seat by June.

In addition to feeding Ira today I will attend a puree lesson to learn how to fix food for him and a family meeting with the other parents. Busy, busy…

I’m so proud of you and Ira! You are such a good mama! Thank you for sharing so much about Ira’s experience. It helps me know exactly what to pray for. I love you.

Oye! Tough day… It usually gets worse before it gets better. Most of the kids get use to it after the first week or so. Because Ira is not neurologically involved he will do great. he is so smart as you know and will try every technique he knows to get out of doing what he wants to do. Maybe a burger is out of the question for June, but maybe not… There is always July!
