Life According to Laura

a special day

This picture was taken last summer when my family and I drove through Arkansas on our way back to New York from Texas. I love this image of four generations together. My grandmother raised 11 children. She is 96, almost 97, and still going strong. Whew. It wasn’t so long ago that she was painting pictures and sewing quilts. Did I get any of her genes?

My mom gave every bit of herself to raising my brothers and me. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for us still. I know she is proud of the mother I have become but I hope she realizes that she taught me everything I know.

Grandmother, thank you for the hundreds of potatoes you peeled and stitches you sewed to feed and clothe your children. Your love for them is evidenced in the love they now have for their own families. Your love for them was and is Christ’s love in the flesh.

Mom, thank you for loving me unconditionally. You taught me that who I am is more than about the way I look. “Pretty is as pretty does” you used to say. Thank you for exemplifying Christ’s love by welcoming into our home those who had no home. Thank you for teaching me to iron - oh wait - I still don’t know how to do that. Thank you for loving me enough to let me fly away to Abilene, Princeton, Ft. Worth, Brooklyn…

Grandmother, I love you.

Mom, I love you.

Happy Mother’s Day

Laura, God truly answered my prayers for my children to find mates who had been raised by Godly mothers and daddies when you became part of our family. Your parents were and are such awesome Christians / spouses / parents / grandparents / friends. I, too, thank God for Kay and her Mom and their beautiful spirits and their hard work and their love for God. And I thank God for the mothers of my grandchildren…that’s you! You continually amaze me with your many talents, your sweet, sweet spirit, and your awesome love for Joe, Sophia, and Ira. And I agree, you can’t iron worth a hoot!
    Love,
    Glo
