Sophia met her best friend in daycare two summers ago. Roan and his family had just moved to Brooklyn from Utah. But it wasn’t until Halloween of that year that I finally had the opportunity to meet Roan’s mom, Jodi. Roan and his parents just happened by, trick-or-treating, and a friendship that had begun between our children began to grow between us.
Jodi is now one of my best friends here in Brooklyn. We have similar parenting styles (not identical - she lets her son dye his hair red and blue
and have a lot of fun together. One of the sweetest parts of our friendship is the way she and her husband have journeyed alongside us with Ira. They didn’t know us at all while Ira was in the hospital but have watched his amazing transformation of the last two years. They have shared in our joy and amazement and are in awe over the changes he has made particularly in the last month.
In fact Jodi and Ira have a running inside joke. Every time Ira sees Jodi he has to get her attention and say, “Hey, I’m stuck!” Its hilarious. I can’t even remember where this joke originated.
Jodi’s brother and his wife, Elden and Susan, are struggling. Susan has been battling cancer and has been through several rounds of chemo and radiation. This past week they learned the cancer has spread to her brain. The tumors are everywhere and the doctors have said she has months to live. They had to deliver this news to their 4 children. Please join me praying for this family - for comfort, for healing, for peace.
If you care to follow their story, Elden keeps a blog that is worth your time.

Oh, God, please let Susan feel your presence in every moment. May she find strength and peace in your presence. Please give her husband and children warmth and comfort as they struggle with their wife’s/mother’s illness. Most of all, God, I pray for healing for Susan.
Amen.

Thank you Laura - I do adore your children, and am so happy that Ira and I are at that stage of our relationship where we can share inside jokes. One day I will add him to my Netflix account and we will be truly and irrevocably bound for life.
Your caring for my family always lifts me up. Thank you for your friendship and support. It means everything to us.
