I realize I run the risk in seeming a bit vain by posting these pictures of myself. However, I can’t help myself.
This week is Sophia’s spring break so she and I took a little trip to the Central Park Zoo yesterday. The zoo is actually not that big so after we had seen all we wanted to see, we sat down to indulge in one of my favorite pastimes – people watching. Needless to say, Sophia got a little bored so she asked if she could take my picture.
Now the camera I had with me is Joe’s Cannon something or other and it is WAY too much camera for me. I keep thinking I’m going to read the manual on the thing but that just wouldn’t be true to my character. So I carry it around and take pictures that have a lot of potential but remain mediocre.
I think twice about letting Sophia handle this expensive little ditty but decide to let her have a go. I hang the strap around her neck just in case, give her a few instructions (the only ones I know), and let her loose.
This was her first attempt:
Actually a pretty cool shot but I instructed her a little more. Here was the next one:
She must have liked the thrill because she immediately started throwing directives at me.
“Ok Mom. Now I want a silly face.”
“Now do a serious face, Mom.”
“Good. Now put your chin in your hands like this. No, Mom. Like this!”
After she had taken this last one, she looked at it and said, “Hmm…pretty cute” in a very matter-of-fact, self-congratulatory kind of way. Well, I lost it. I started laughing my head off to the point which Sophia started telling me to be quiet because she was getting embarrassed. I just thought the whole scene was so funny.
Needless to say, I had a great day with her yesterday. It was just what I needed.

Laura, the pics are beautiful! Sophia did such a good job taking the pictures and you look absolutely gorgeous, as usual. Have a great road trip. Do you have any idea how blessed Joe and I are to have you as our daughter-in-law?
Love so much,
Glo

Great moms let their kids use REAL cameras!
What a memory-making day! Great pics! Be warned–start saving those pennies now. It becomes an expensive hobby for the teenager with big dreams of becoming a professional photographer.
